If you’re thinking about installing solar panels this spring, there’s one step we never cut corners on at SolarTherm UK: an in-person solar PV survey.
With energy bills still biting across the South East and daylight hours increasing week by week, now is exactly when many homeowners start looking seriously at solar. Before any panels go on a roof, the foundations of a good system have to be right – and that starts with seeing your property in person.
Why an In-Person Survey Matters
No two homes in the South East are the same, from Victorian terraces and 1930s semis to modern new builds, every roof, meter setup and energy usage pattern is different. An in-person survey allows us to design a system that’s properly tailored to your home, not estimated from satellite images or guesswork.
During your visit, one of our experienced surveyors will:
- Take accurate roof measurements
- Assess roof orientation and pitch
- Check for shading from chimneys, trees or neighbouring buildings
- Review your current electricity usage
- Identify the best locations for inverters and battery storage
This level of detail is essential for ensuring your system performs efficiently – especially as we head into spring, when solar generation starts ramping up quickly.
A Human Approach (Not A Sales Pitch)
We understand that inviting someone into your home can feel like a big step. Our surveyors aren’t there to pressure you or critique your décor – they’re there to give you clear, honest advice and answer any questions you might have.
Think of it as a practical, no nonsense consultation with a solar expert who understands local housing types and South East grid requirements.
By doing things properly from day one, we ensure:
- Accurate system sizing
- Realistic savings estimates
- Fewer surprises during installation
- Better long term performance
- Correct cabling and wiring routes
You can relax knowing the groundwork is being handled professionally.
What to Prepare Before Your Survey
To keep things simple, we ask for just a few basics; access to your loft and access to your electricity meter and consumer unit. Prior to our attendance, our Design team will have remotely surveyed your property and designed the ideal system for your property, using your annual usage and the information gathered during your feasibility study.
The in-person survey typically takes 60-90 minutes, depending on the property and system size, and we use this time to plan out cabling routes, where your inverter and battery will be located and ensure the system we have designed is optimal for your property and usage.
What Happens After the Survey?
Once we’ve completed your assessment, we will make any changes that need to be made. We’ll then apply for your DNO approval and once received, we’ll get you booked in for your installation.
A Smart Step Towards Spring Savings
As we move out of winter and into brighter months, solar panels installed now are perfectly timed to take advantage of longer days and increased generation. An in-person survey ensures you’re set up to make the most of it from day one.
