Installing in the summer can see your install be delayed, at SolarTherm UK we can experience delays in getting your DNO approval through due to the volume of applications being made – this can delay your install date (if you are having a larger system installed) or delay you being able to benefit from SEG payments (if your system is below 4kW).

Autumn may seem like an odd time to have your solar installed, but it is still beneficial. The cool, crisp mornings are perfect for solar efficiency. Your panels will still generate power in the autumn. Autumn is also the perfect time to install quickly as installers are usually quieter this time of year and have more availability. We also find DNO approval comes back quicker in the autumn months.
Winter – Time to Plan for the Future
Your panels will still generate electricity on a cold, cloudy winter day – just at a lower levels than other times of the year. The shorter days mean there’s less sunlight to capture so output is reduced. Snow will rarely cause an issue as your panels are installed at an angle, encouraging the snow to slide off and cleaning the surface in the process. By installing during the winter months, you will have time to work out how your system works best for you ready for the peak spring and summer months.
