In July 2022, 142 solar PV modules were installed at Orsett Golf Club, delivering an eco-friendly and low-carbon energy solution to power the clubhouse and facilities. The system, rated at 43.7kWp and powered by SolarEdge, enables the Club to track generation and savings in real time.
Eighteen months after installation, the system had already produced over 60.28MWh, delivering strong savings and environmental benefits.
Performance – Three Years Later
Fast forward three years and the results speak for themselves:
- Total Generation: 132MWh since July 2022
- Average Daily Output: 120.54kWh
- Annual Output: equivalent to 44MWh per year (in line with our performance estimates)
- Offsetting: over one-third of the Club’s electricity needs, with the site consuming an average of 206kWh per day
Financial Impact
The system has delivered significant financial benefits, validated by the Energy Performance Validation Scheme (EPVS):
- Year One Savings: £8,099.73
- Year Two Savings: £8,669.95
- Year Three Savings: £9,280.31
- Forecast Year Four: £9,933.65
That equates to:
- £92.40 in savings per day, up from our original projection of £24.65 per day
- Payback Period: 5 years
- Return on Investment: 872.17%
Environmental Benefits
The installation continues to make a measurable difference to the environment, reducing the Club’s carbon footprint:
- Equivalent to over 705 trees planted in carbon offset
- Avoided emissions of over 12,000kg of CO₂ since commissioning
Looking Ahead
The system has proven to be a sound investment for the Club, delivering consistent savings and performance as expected. With electricity use at the Club still high, further opportunities to expand and save more remain.
- Battery Storage – store surplus solar electricity to reduce reliance on expensive grid electricity in the evenings.
- Additional Solar Capacity – expand the system to cover a larger share of daily demand.
