How Much Energy Do Solar Panels Generate Per Day in the South East?

Solar panel installation on a roof

Thinking about going solar? You’re not alone. With UK energy bills at a record high and not looking at reducing any time soon, increasingly South East homeowners are looking to renewable sources for their energy supply.

Before making the switch, you may have several questions, and at SolarTherm UK, we’re here to answer them. We regularly get asked the following questions:

“How much electricity do solar panels produce each day?”

“Is solar energy enough to power a whole home?”

“What factors affect solar panel efficiency and output?”

At SolarTherm UK, we’ve been helping households across the South East to cut costs and reduce reliance on the grid for over 15 years. Let’s break it down.

How Much Energy Do Solar Panels Produce Each Day?

The energy output of a solar panel is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). A typical modern domestic solar panel in 2025 produces between 400W and 450W, depending on the model and quality.

To calculate daily output:

Panel Wattage x Peak Sunlight Hours = Daily Energy

At SolarTherm UK, we install 410W Bovill.tech solar panels, that come with an industry leading 99-year warranty. Let’s use these as an example to work out the expected daily power produced.

410W panel x 4 hours of usable UK sunlight = 1.6kWh per day

Multiply this by the number of panels in your solar PV system – for this example we’ll say 10 – and you’ll have your daily generation.

1.6kWh x 10 panels = 16kWh per day

How Much Solar Power Do You Need for Your Home?

Every home is different. A single occupant in a small flat will use far less energy than a family of five in a four bedroom detached house.

  • Small home or flats – 1-2kW systems, saves on bills and lower the carbon footprint of the property.
  • Average family homes – 3-4kW systems, that will cover most of the daily energy use.
  • Larger homes with high energy use – 5kW+ systems to maximise savings.

What Affects Solar Panel Output in the UK?

Even with the latest technology and high efficiency solar panels, solar output depends on several factors, which we take into account when compiling your quote and performance estimates. Roof orientation and angle are big contributors to the amount of electricity your solar panels will generate, the perfect roof is south facing and at an approximate 35° angle. That doesn’t mean that if your roof isn’t you can’t have solar panels, it just means your output might be slightly lower. Ideally, there will be no nearby trees, chimneys or buildings casting shadows on your roof, this isn’t a huge problem with modern solar panels as you can have a SolarEdge power optimised system installed to overcome any shading issues.

Summer months produce more electricity than winter months as the days are longer and the sunlight is stronger. The summer months produce three times more energy than winter months. At SolarTherm UK, our expert team will assess your property to design the most efficient solar PV system for your home.

Monitoring Solar Panel Output

On completion of your solar panel installation, we’ll help you set up your solar panel monitoring app. The app will allow you to track your generation in real time, seeing how much you are generating, how much you are using and how much is being exported back to the grid.

Your monitoring app will help you use as much of your free solar generated power as possible but also help you see if your usage patterns change or increase and help you decide if installing a solar battery will be viable.

Storing Solar Energy with Batteries

The biggest benefit of solar battery storage is the potential to use round the clock free electricity. Instead of exporting excess electricity back to the grid, you can store it for use in the evenings or on low generation days. The most efficient solar PV system is when you consume all or the majority of the electricity produced by your solar panels and reduce the amount of grid electricity you import in.

Is Solar Energy Worth it in 2025?

Absolutely, modern solar panels are more efficient, durable and affordable than ever before. With rising UK energy prices and government support for renewable energy, homeowners are seeing faster returns on investment.

At SolarTherm UK we specialise in tailored solar PV systems designed for maximum efficiency and savings. Whether you want to cut energy bills, reduce your carbon footprint or gain energy independence, we can help.
