Why install Solar Panels for a new build?
Solar panels are an excellent way to future proof new build properties and renovations with renewable energy, whilst complying with recent updates to Building Regulations and SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure).
If you are planning a new build house, an extension or renovation, or if you are an architect planning a new development, solar panels can be incorporated into your designs.

Benefits of Solar Panels for New Builds
Aside from the reduced energy costs for the property and the environmental benefits of solar, there are some more specific benefits to be found when considering solar panels for new build properties.
SAP Compliance
All new build properties are now required to include energy-saving measures to ensure carbon efficiency and comply with SAP regulations to be more self-sufficient. Solar panels on a new build property can have a big impact on the calculations, as typically around 10% of the energy used in a new property should be self-generated in order to pass SAP.
Improved BREEAM Score
Solar panels on new build properties can also have a positive contribution to your BREEAM score. BREEAM is the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, and it is a sustainability assessment for the design and construction of a development. An increasing number of local authorities are enforcing higher requirements for BREEAM scores, in order to reduce the environmental impacts of construction.
Reduced roofing costs
Solar panels for new builds usually don’t need to be retro-fitted to an existing roof. This means the panels themselves can be integrated into the roof, rather than mounted on tiles. Integrated solar panels will sit flush with the roof, which is more aesthetically pleasing, but also saves on the amount of roofing materials required.
