Future-Proofing a Family Home with Solar Energy
At SolarTherm UK, we believe that investing in solar energy is about more than reducing electricity bills today – it’s about creating a more energy-efficient home for the future.
Following a successful solar installation for a customer, we were delighted to receive a call back within just one week. Having seen the benefits of solar energy for himself, our customer wanted us to install a similar system at his mother’s property in Rayleigh, Essex, helping her future-proof her home and take greater control of her energy costs.
This recommendation is a great example of the confidence our customers have in our installations and service.
The Solar Installation
For this Rayleigh property, we installed a 6.11 kWp solar PV system paired with a 9.4 kWh Hanchu ESS battery and Gateway, providing the household with the opportunity to generate renewable electricity and store surplus energy for later use.
The system was designed around the property’s estimated annual electricity consumption of 2,469 kWh, using figures taken directly from the customer’s electricity bill.
The installation also included bird protection mesh to help prevent birds nesting beneath the panels, along with scaffolding on two sides of the property to facilitate safe installation.
As part of our comprehensive installation service, we completed the necessary paperwork, including the G99 application, MCS certificate and electrical certificates.

Expected Electricity Bill Savings
With estimated annual solar generation of 5,204 kWh, the system is predicted to generate more electricity over the course of a year than the property currently consumes.
The Hanchu battery storage systems allow surplus solar electricity to be stored for use when the panels are not generating enough power, such as during the evening. This can help the household make use of its own renewable electricity and reduce its reliance on energy from the grid.
Based on the system’s projections, the expected financial benefits are:
- Year one predicted savings: £1,009
- Estimated payback period: 10 years
- Predicted savings over 30 years: £60,454
These figures are estimates rather than guaranteed returns. Actual savings will depend on factors including electricity prices, household energy consumption, the proportion of solar electricity used directly or stored in the battery, and any export payments received.
Reducing the Property’s Carbon Footprint
Alongside the potential financial savings, the installation will help reduce the household’s reliance on electricity from the grid and lower its carbon footprint.
The projected environmental benefits are:
- Annual CO₂ reduction: 1.04 tonnes
- 30 year CO₂ reduction: 31.22 tonnes
- Equivalent to planting 49 trees per year
By generating clean electricity at home, the system provides a practical way to support a more sustainable future while making better use of renewable energy.
A Family Recommendation That Speaks for Itself
One of the best compliments we can receive is a recommendation from a satisfied customer.
After installing the solar PV and battery storage system at his own home, our customer contacted us again within a week to arrange an installation at his mother’s property.
His decision was driven by a desire to future-proof her home, helping her prepare for the years ahead while benefiting from the potential savings and energy independence solar technology can offer.
