The SolarTherm UK technical team are looking back on some of our installs and catching up with the customers to see how their experience has saved them money and helped them on the road to taking control of their power.
July 2022 saw SolarTherm UK install a 5.32kWp solar PV system and battery storage for a family in Redhill, looking to make savings on their electricity bills.
Why Mr Baur Chose Solar
Encouraged by rising energy prices in 2022 with predictions for them to continue to rise in 2023, our customer contacted SolarTherm UK looking for a solution to protect themselves from these rising costs.
“Our electricity bill had already risen higher than we was comfortable with and hearing the news that energy bills were set to rise further by the end of the year we wanted to protect ourselves from this rise.”
After reaching out to a number of companies, both local and national, they signed the contract with SolarTherm UK.
“We chose SolarTherm UK for the transparency of their quote, they explained the costs, performance expectations and what we could potentially save across the lifetime of our solar system.”
The System
Mr Baur’s property was fitted with:
- 14 x JA Solar 380W half cell mono black panels
- SolarEdge power optimisers and inverter
- 9.6kWh PylonTech battery
The Baurs chose to install a SolarEdge power optimised system due to their panels having different orientations and experiencing shading at different parts of the day. A SolarEdge system allows your system to perform efficiently by making each panel work independently from one another.
Installation Experience
The install went smoothly, with the Mr Baur saying
“Communication was excellent throughout, and the installation went exactly as promised.”
Our experienced installation team ensured the process was efficient and minimally disruptive, completing the work on schedule and to a high standard. From the initial site assessment to the final handover, every stage was carefully managed to deliver a seamless experience. The team also took time to explain the system’s operation and answer any questions, leaving the customer confident and satisfied with their new setup.
System Performance & Savings
Since installation, the system has delivered impressive results:
- Producing 14.37MWh of clean, free electricity
- Saving an estimated £2,948 over the last 2 and a half years. Reducing the electricity bill to just an average of £234 a year including the standing charge.
In 2023 We Estimated Their System Would Generate:
👉 Annual savings: £885.36
👉 Estimated payback period: 14 years
👉 Net lifetime savings: £28,277.97
We can now see their system is performing above expectations, and the estimated payback period is now just over 11 years.
What Mr Baur Learned
The SolarEdge monitoring system allows solar owners to monitor their solar generation in real time, comparing year on year performance.

“From using the app we’ve managed to adjust our electricity use, installing smart technology to run our energy heavy appliances during the day, so they are running on our solar panels rather than importing from the grid.”
Advice for New Solar Customers
When asked what advice they would give to others considering solar, Mr Baur said,
“Take the time to speak with a reputable installer and ask plenty of questions — understanding how the system works really helps you get the most out of it.”
They also highlighted the importance of choosing a trusted company with proven experience, noting that clear communication and professional support made their solar journey straightforward and stress-free.
