Cambridge Solar Panel Installation

Solar installation on a flat roof

5.40 kWp SolarEdge System with Battery Storage

Location: Cambridge

Installation date: January 2026

Project Overview

In January 2026, SolarTherm UK completed a bespoke flat roof solar installation in Cambridge, delivering a high performance renewable energy system tailored to maximise efficiency, space utilisation and long term financial returns.

Flat roof properties present unique opportunities for optimisation, and this system was carefully designed using a custom aluminium A-frame mounting solution to achieve the ideal panel angle and orientation for maximum solar generation.

System Specification

  • System size: 5.40 kWp
  • Solar panels: 12x Aiko N-Type ABC Neostar 450W panels
  • Inverter: SolarEdge inverter with power optimisers
  • Battery storage: Voltsmile W1 10.24kWh battery
  • Mounting system: bespoke aluminium A-frame mounting kit
  • Additional features: 2x EPS (Emergency Power Supply) sockets and a 7.2kW Project EV charger

The flat roof setup allows for optimal tilt angles, improving solar yield compared to many pitched roof installations where orientation is fixed. Combined with SolarEdge power optimisers, each panel performs independently, ensuring maximum efficiency across the system.

Flat Roof Installation Benefits

This project highlights the advantages of installing solar panels on a flat roof:

  • Optimised panel angle: panels are mounted at the ideal tilt to maximise sunlight exposure.
  • Flexible design layout: panels can be positioned for best performance rather than being restricted by roof pitch.
  • Improved efficiency: greater control over orientation leads to higher energy yields.
  • Minimal roof penetration: the A-frame system reduces the need for invasive fixings.

This approach ensures the system performs at peak efficiency all year round, even during lower sunlight months.

Performance to Date

Since installation, 561.86kWh of electricity has been generated by the system. Despite installation during winter, the system has already delivered strong early performance – demonstrating the effectiveness of both the panel technology and optimised flat roof design.
