EPVS is a certification standard scheme that certifies home energy product installers for their processes and calculations. The certification is designed to protect consumers from false claims and mis-selling.
Who are EPVS?
EPVS stands for Energy Performance Validation Scheme and it is an independent body that provides validation for home energy product installers. EPVS aims to protect the consumer from false claims and over-inflated figures that can be misleading when purchasing home energy products. Their aim is to instil confidence in the market and set a standard for home energy product installers.
What is their role?
They vet home energy product installers through a rigorous onboarding process which includes checking all the business’ paperwork. They also validate the processes that the business uses to calculate savings, running costs and any incentives that are available (such as the electricity Smart Export Guarantee). This involves checking that the calculations work, that the figures produced are a fair representation of what the household could expect and are substantiated with evidence.
EPVS will also examine the business’ sales presentations for any inaccurate or misleading information. They will check that the products being installed are fit for purpose and will perform for the warranty period as claimed. EPVS will also examine contractual paperwork to ensure that it meets their standards.
EPVS not only do thorough checks before accepting an installer onto the scheme, but they also undertake ongoing audits of quotations, estimates and savings being produced for customers. These audits are conducted monthly to ensure that standards are maintained.
EPVS work directly with consumers as they also confirm that customers are receiving the documentation that has been validated by them. They will answer any questions the customer may have when they make this call to reassure them of the data in the documentation.
What does EPVS certification mean?
Home energy product installers can become members of EPVS so that their work can be certified by the organisation. It provides installers with an industry certification that proves the estimates and savings figures they produce for their products are trustworthy. It provides an extra layer of security and protection by EPVS which protects both the customer and the installer.
Customers can request a free validation check if they are not contacted by EPVS as part of the monthly monitoring if they wish to have their figures validated.
Why should you choose an EPVS member?
When so much of the decision to invest in a home energy product such as solar PV is determined by the cost and efficiency of the product, you want to know that the product will perform as described. If the installer has been certified by EPVS you can have peace of mind that their products and calculations have been checked and verified. You can even contact EPVS for a validation check on the figures you have been given for extra confidence.
SolarTherm UK are a Gold Standard EPVS member as we recognise the value of this certification for our customers. We like our customers to have confidence in our products and the validation from EPVS reassures them about our product figures and demonstrates that we hold ourselves to high standards.
