UK Inflation Rises to 3.8%

What it Means for Your Energy Bills

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) confirmed that UK inflation rose to 3.8% in July 2025, the highest it has been since January 2024. Whilst the increase has mainly been caused by a rise in air fare and motor fuels, households and businesses are still struggling with energy bills remaining of major concern.

Energy Prices and Inflation

Global energy markets remain volatile, leaving industries with no choice but to pass on the rising costs to consumers with price rises. The Bank of England has warned that inflation could rise even higher this autumn, pushing bills even higher. Ofgem’s price cap offers some protection to households and residential customers, but businesses receive no such protection and are hardest hit by wholesale volatility. The UK has one of the most expensive energy markets in Europe.

What Does This Mean for You?

Households will continue to face rising costs of groceries and living costs, with food inflation expected to continue rising year-on-year and no sign of prices falling in the near future.

Businesses are under mounting pressure with wage increases, national insurance contributions rising and energy prices remaining high. Even if inflation slows, prices are unlikely to fall and more likely to just rise at a slower rate, meaning pressure will remain into 2026.

SolarTherm UK Can Help

With energy prices unpredictable, households and businesses are increasingly turning to renewable energy solutions to take back control of their energy costs. At SolarTherm UK, we provide practical ways to cut energy costs and reduce reliance on the grid.

Generating your own energy with a solar PV system can save you up to 70% on your electricity bills. Pair your solar PV panels with a solar battery to increase your use of generated power and avoid importing energy during peak rates. Businesses also protect their bottom line with a solar PV installation, by being more able to predict and control energy costs.

By producing and consuming your own clean electricity, you are gaining energy independence, cost predictability and long-term resilience to fluctuating energy prices, all while contributing to a more sustainable future.
